Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaker. Feminist Frequency hosts videos, comments and an analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian was a Canadian and an American feminist media critic. Feminist Frequency, a website for education that examines women's positions in the pop culture narratives was the result of her research. She also serves as the executive director. As well as working to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted attack on women and other minorities in online spaces she is committed to breaking the stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. As a university student, Sarkeesian became concerned about issues related to gender and rights for women at an early stage. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining gender-based representations in video games. She ended up being the victim of an online harassment campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. She has won numerous awards to recognize her prominent contributions to the field of feminism. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist for a long time and founded Feminist Frequency.
